Du læste rigtigt: EA, også kendt som Electronic Arts, har netop erhvervet sig rettighederne til at udvikle spil i den populære stjernekrigssaga. Det er jo blot få måneder siden, at Disney opkøbte og tilmed lukkede LucasArts, men nu lader det altså til, at Star Wars lever videre og vil blive drevet af den mægtige Frostbite 3.
EA Labels President, Frank Gibeau, har udtalt sig, at de kommende spil vil udnytte det magtfulde bæst bedst kendt som Frostbite 3. Han siger yderligere, at studier som Visceral, DiCE og ikke mindst BioWare vil stå bag udviklingen af dem. Kommer der mon et nyt KoTOR? Eller hvad med et nyt Battlefront? Kun fremtiden vil vise, hvad de gode folkens hos EA har gemt i ærmet. Nørden i mig håber, at 1313 kan blive genoplivet, men det vil tiden altså vise. Indtil videre må vi blot håbe på, at EA klarer sin stjernekrig bedre end sin moderne krigsførelse.

That's right, my friend: EA, otherwise known as Electronic Arts, has just acquired the licens to develop games in the popular Star Wars saga. It's only been a couple of months since Disney bought and shut down LucasArts but it seems that Star Wars will endure and in fact be powered by the mighty Frostbite 3.
EA Labels President, Frank Gibeau, has stated that the future games will utilize the full potential of the powerful beast best known as Frostbite 3. He also noted that studios such as Visceral, DiCE and BioWare will be developing titles in the franchise. Does it mean that we'll be getting a new KoTOR? Or perhaps a new Battlefront? Only time will tell what the good people at EA has got in store for us. Being a nerd, I really wish to see the revival of 1313 but nothing is known at this point about the future games. I only hope that EAs galactic travels won't share the same fate as their journey into the modern warfare.
For centuries we have watched and waited for the world of gaming to emerge. In Adventures.. Vigilance. In Shooters.. Victory. In RPGs.. Sacrifice. This is what it means to be a Game Warden.

Mass Effect 4, 'sequel' eller 'prequel'?
BioWare lader kanonerne op til endnu en omgang Mass Effect, og hvorfor skulle de ikke gøre det? Det er en ganske succesfuld spilserie, og jeg vil glæde mig til at spille endnu flere spil baseret på det univers. Men fidusen er, at hovedpersonen, John/Jane Shepard, jo er skrevet ud af universet. Så spørgsmålet for BioWare er nu, hvordan man laver en ny spilserie i en allerede etableret spilserie.
Derfor har Mass Effect-skaberen, Casey Hudson, stillet et rimeligt åbent spørgsmål inde på sin Twitterprofil: "Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?" Skal det være en forgænger eller en efterfølger? Det vil tiden vise, og informationerne er sparsommelige, men BioWare har dog offentliggjort nogle oplysninger om det nye spil, bl.a. at det vil køre på DICE' nye Frostbite engine, og at det ikke vil blive udviklet af det sædvanlige Mass Effect-hold. Denne gang vil spillet blive udviklet af BioWare Montreal og ikke BioWare Edmonton, og det vides endnu ikke, hvad det egentlig betyder. Har BioWare gang i noget andet? Er det pga. Dragon Age 3? But the thing is that the main character, John/Jane Shepard, is no longer part of the Universe. So the question is: how does BioWare create a new series within an already established series?
To answer that question the creater of Mass Effect, Casey Hudson, asked his many followers on Twitter the following question: "Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?" Should it be a prequel or a sequel? Time will tell and though the information regarding the game is limited due to its early development state, BioWare did tell us that they have moved away from the Unreal Engine and are now using DICE' Frostbite engine, and that the development of the game has moved to another studio. It is now BioWare Montreal and not BioWare Edmonton who'll be doing the Mass Effect franchise from this point on. It is unclear what this means, however, and some wonder if it's because of Dragon Age 3. But all I know is that it's going to be very interesting to see what BioWare has in store for us!

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition
Dragon Age. Spilserien begyndte på en episk note med Dragon Age: Origins og satte en høj standard for kommende RPG-spil fra den populære udvikler. BioWare er kendt for at lave mindeværdige rollespil, herunder blandt andet Baldur's Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic og selvfølgelig Mass Effect, men i nyere tid er studiet imidlertid faldet i popularitet. Dragon Age 2 var ikke just den oplevelse, som mange af os havde ventet på, og Mass Effect 3? Den suppedas behøver næppe nogen kommentarer fra mig eller nogen anden.
Nu er de imidlertid klar til at løslade informationer vedrørende Dragon Age 3, og efter alt at dømme lyder det til, at spillet kommer til at hæve niveauet betragteligt. Creative Director på spillet, Mike Laidlaw, talte om spillet til en konference, hvor det kom frem, at spillets områder blandt andet bliver store. Meget store endda! Et af områderne skulle være lige så stort som hele Dragon Age 2! Det lyder fornuftigt. Ydermere er der ligeledes tale om fuld tilpasningsmuligheder af ens karakter og følgere, men det kom ligeledes frem, at man (igen) kun kan spille som menneske. Det er lidt af en skam taget i betragtning af, at man i Origins kunne spille som alle racerne. Dette skabte en fin dynamik, som nu desværre går tabt, men jeg holder endnu håbet højt. BioWare har brug for en succes nu, og Dragon Age 3 kan meget vel blive den succes! Spillet forventes at udkomme i efteråret 2013.

Dragon Age. The series started on a very high note with the popular Dragon Age: Origins and it set a high standard for future RPGs from the popular developer. BioWare is known for making memorable roleplaying games, like Baldur's Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and of course Mass Effect, but in recent times the studio has experienced a decline in popularity. Dragon Age 2 was not what anyone had expected and Mass Effect 3? Well that doesn't really need any more comments from me or anyone.
BioWare is however ready to unleash details about Dragon Age 3 and all things considered it seems to be a game that will raise the bar considerably. Creative Director, Mike Laidlaw, said at a conference that the levels in the game will be massive. One of the levels is actually the size of the entire Dragon Age 2! That sounds promising indeed. Furthermore we will be able to customize both our main character and followers as well, but he also stated that we will only be able to play as humans. That is a loss, I believe, because being able to create a character of any race in Origins created a certain dynamic to the game which will now be lost. But still I maintain high hopes for Dragon Age 3. BioWare needs a success and this game might just be it! The game is expected to launch in late 2013.

Star Wars: TOR: Terror From Beyond
BioWare har ikke just haft held i sprøjten med hensyn til deres MMO: Star Wars: The Old Republic. Spillet har nemlig ikke klaret sig forfærdeligt godt rent kommercielt, og nu bliver det tilmed snart endnu en MMO, som må lide skæbnen af at gå Free2Play. Men man må ikke kimse af denne basis! Mange mennesker har en tendens til at tro det værste om de spil, som går F2P, og jeg er en af dem, men faktisk viser det sig at være en mere holdbar løsning. Det giver spillerne mulighed for gratis og lovligt, vel at mærke, at prøve spillene og selv vurdere, hvor mange penge de vil skyde i projektet ved at købe diverse opgraderinger. Faktisk kan denne form for betaling vise sig at generere en større indtægt end ved månedlige betalinger.
Men nok om det! BioWare forsøger nu at holde liv i sin MMO ved at udgive updates til spillet hver 6. uge, hvor spillerne kan finde nyt og spændende indhold til deres spil. Næste udvidelse går under navnet Terror From Beyond, og på papiret virker det ganske fint og som en holdbar udvidelse. Så hvis du stadig har en Jedi eller Sith Ridder gemt inde i dig, som blot venter på at vende tilbage til den gamle republik, så bør du muligvis tjekke Terror From Beyond ud! BioWare hasn't exactly been lucky with their MMO: Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game hasn't been doing all that well in eyes of the public, and very soon it'll go Free2Play as many other MMO's has done before it. F2P isn't a bad basis, not at all, in fact! Many people have a tendency of thinking the worst about the games going F2P, and I am one of them, but it turns out that it's often a better solution regarding financing the game than monthly subscription. It gives the players the opportunity to try out the game and get relatively far in it before donating their hard earned cash to the game on various upgrades and add-ons. This can, at times, generate a higher income than monthly subscription.
But enough about that! BioWare is trying to keep its MMO afloat by releasing updates every 6 weeks or so, where the players can find new and interesting stuff to add to their gaming experience. The next add-on for the game is called Terror From Beyond, and on paper it looks quite decent. So if you still have a Jedi or maybe a Sith Knight roaming inside just waiting for a chance to return to the old republic, you might want to check out Terror From Beyond. You can watch the official video above where the designers are talking about some of the things that you can expect from the release.

it go? We’re excited to hear what you have to say!" Sådan lyder budskabet inde på BioWares officielle blog for tiden med hensyn til Dragon Age 3. Jessica Merizan, Community Manager hos BioWare, forklarer initiativet ved at sige, at "Getting out and talking to fans is one of our main priorities but we
aren't stopping at conventions. We would love to open the dialogue
online with more of our loyal consumers to foster the spirit of
community."
Det viser sig, at BioWare nu har tænkt sig at involvere sin omfattende fanbase i udviklingen af fremtidige spil, her især Dragon Age 3, og det er et forfriskende træk fra den ellers populære udvikler. BioWare har imidlertid været hovedfokus i en række triste sager omhandlende blandt andet enden i Mass Effect 3 og ikke mindst den dybt skuffende oplevelse, Dragon Age 2, men nu forsøger studiet at rette op på sine tidligere fejltrin, og det skal de to doktorer have respekt for.
Dette initiativ kommer til at fungere sådan, at de åbner for bloggen og lader spillets fans tømme de kreative reserver, og efter 7 dage lukkes bloggen midlertidigt, hvor holdet vil overveje de mange forslag. BioWare has been the subject of controversy lately regarding the ending in Mass Effect 3 and the profoundly disappointing experience known as Dragon Age 2, but they are now trying to correct former mishaps and the two Doctors certainly deserve respect for this.
The initiativ will go as follows: the gamers will be able to join an online discussion where they can submit their ideas and wishes, and after 7 days the blog will close where the developers will consider the many submissions. BioWare isn't making any promises by this, says Jessica Merizan, but if Dragon Age is one of your favourite franchises then you should definitely check out the blog already today!

Vidunderlig Mass Effect 3-temasang
Mass Effect. Sci-fi-serien over dem alle, hvis man spørger nogle gamere til råds. Det er vanskeligt at finde en værdig modstander, når det gælder BioWares episke franchise, og skønt man enten hader eller elsker den kontroversielle afslutning på Shepards kamp, så kan man ikke andet end at elske denne smukke udgave af spillets temasang.
Sangen er udført af YouTube-brugeren, malufenix, og lyrikken af Malukah. Det er en hyldest til spillets mange karakterer samt naturligvis Shepard selv, og man kan ikke undgå at få en smule kuldegysninger over sangens melankolske stemning. Sangen hedder Reignite, og du kan se den her. Enjoy!

It's hard to think of a worthy competitor to BioWare's epic franchise, and though you might hate or love the controversial ending, its hard not to love this beautiful version of the game's melodic theme.
The song, entitled Reignite, is made by the YouTube-user, malufenix, and the lyrics by Malukah. It's a tribute to the characters of the games and it's very nice to see something good coming out the controversy regarding the ending. The song is absolutely beautiful and you can enjoy here.

Dragon Age III bliver en RPG
Mange af os føler, at Dragon Age: Origins er et godt rollespil, der tilbyder timevis af underholdende kampe, en god historie og ikke mindst mulighed for at tilpasse sin karakter efter bedste evne. Mulighederne er nærmest uendelige i Dragon Age, og skønt spillet har sine skønhedsfejl og irritationselementer, så kommer man næppe udenom, at det er et af tidens bedste rollespil. Nogen tid senere udgav BioWare sin udvidelse, Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening, som fik en blandet modtagelse. Personligt var jeg ret begejstret for at se en ny side af Ferelden samt en ny storyline, men jeg var dog lidt forvirret over at se min karakter genopstået fra de døde. Awakening foregår nemlig efter Origins, og hvis man (ligesom jeg) ofrer sig for holdet for at nedlægge dragen, så kan det være en kende funky at spille som den karakter igen. Det er et mindre brud på kontinuiteten, vil nogle nok mene.
Men så kom nyheden om Dragon Age II, og i starten var alle i den syvende himmel, og hvorfor skulle man ikke være det? Dragon Age II? Selvfølgelig bliver det godt! Det er jo, trods alt, BioWare! Men hvad man fik var desværre en slem skuffelse. Uinspirerende historie, kedelige karakterer (med undtagelse af Varric!) blandet med ekstremt genkendelige scener efterlod spillerne med en bitter smag i munden. Kampsystemet, synes jeg, fungerer tilgengæld bedre i DA2, men det er også det eneste positive ved det.
Nu florerer nyheden om Dragon Age III, og min første tanke er: "Wow, det var tidligt, men lad os nu se!" Meget lidt vides om DA3 andet end, at det muligvis bliver Open-World i stil med Elder Scrolls-serien, og at det skulle have et langt større fokus på strategiske kampe. PAX kører for tiden, og BioWares Creative Director for Dragon Age, Mike Laidlaw, fik mulighed for at tale lidt om nogle af de ting, som vi kan forvente i det kommende spil. Problemet med dette er, at disse ting ikke burde fremhæves som noget særligt.
Mike Laidlaw fremhæver især tre ting, som vi kan forvente i Dragon Age III: 1. Non-Recycled Level Design, 2. Equipment for followers, og 3. Decisions that matter. Hvad. Filan. Sker. Der? Dette er ikke tre elementer, som man bør fremhæve i en RPG. Dette er elementer, som SKAL være i en RPG. Disse tre elementer er en del af RPGs kerne som en genre, og de bør ikke præsenteres som noget ekstraordinært. BioWare fik tilmed ros i form af klapsalver for at gå tilbage til rødderne og inkludere genre-standarder, og hvorfor fik de det? Fordi disse netop er DA2's største kritikpunkter. Det er rart at vide, at de faktisk har lyttet til kritikken, men fidusen er, at det aldrig skulle have været et problem til at begynde med. Godt gået, BioWare. Godt gået. Se præsentationen nedenfor:

Meget lidt vides om DA3 andet end, at det muligvis bliver Open-World i stil med Elder Scrolls-serien, og at det skulle have et langt større fokus på strategiske kampe. PAX kører for tiden, og BioWares Creative Director for Dragon Age, Mike Laidlaw, fik mulighed for at tale lidt om nogle af de ting, som vi kan forvente i det kommende spil. Problemet med dette er, at disse ting ikke burde fremhæves som noget særligt.
Mike Laidlaw fremhæver især tre ting, som vi kan forvente i Dragon Age III: 1. Non-Recycled Level Design, 2. Equipment for followers, og 3. Decisions that matter. Hvad. Filan. Sker. Der? Dette er ikke tre elementer, som man bør fremhæve i en RPG. Dette er elementer, som SKAL være i en RPG. Disse tre elementer er en del af RPGs kerne som en genre, og de bør ikke præsenteres som noget ekstraordinært. BioWare fik tilmed ros i form af klapsalver for at gå tilbage til rødderne og inkludere genre-standarder, og hvorfor fik de det? Fordi disse netop er DA2's største kritikpunkter. Det er rart at vide, at de faktisk har lyttet til kritikken, men fidusen er, at det aldrig skulle have været et problem til at begynde med. Godt gået, BioWare. Godt gået. Se præsentationen nedenfor:
Som en stor fan af BioWare glæder det mig at se, at de faktisk lytter til deres fans, og jeg beder til, at Dragon Age III bliver en uforglemmelig oplevelse men denne gang for de helt rette årsager.
